Recess Soccer
As part of the Young Coaches’ work within the Community of New Rochelle, we have been in contact with our schools and learned from school faculty that they have observed, by adding a little more structure during recess, it is helpful for some children, both during recess and, when they return to the classroom afterwards.
We have worked with the Elementary Schools within the New Rochelle district to create a program that supplements recess time with athletic young coaches who gently guide a select group of students through free play soccer.
This is separate to the Young Coaches program and does not follow our same YCP structure.
Several benefits of Recess Soccer are, it:
- allows the students to try something new
- introduces them to how much fun soccer can be
- focuses on the benefits of working together as a team, listening and following instructions
- helps build new friendships on the field
- alleviates stress (recess activity is a proven that exercise is a fantastic stress reliever)
Teachers also benefit from the students having had a structured, team-bonding workout!
Teachers and lunch monitors are happy to see the children looking forward to playing soccer.
Recess Soccer occurs during recess – in the middle of the school day.
Now we are looking for coaches to work at two of our local New Rochelle Elementary schools between the hours of 10:30am and 2:00pm
We expect a Recess Coach to arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled start time, so they can assist with carrying equipment to the playground/field and set up the area.
Sometimes the weather means schools will cancel outdoor recess and this can happen with hardly any notice. It is unfortunate but cannot be helped.
You will be paid for the hours you work, in this Recess Soccer program, at a rate of $25 per hour.
